The Payton Armchair is 78 cm wide, 86 cm deep and 85 cm tall, with a 46 cm seat height and a 52 cm seat depth. It is a single-seat chair in the true sense — one loose seat cushion, one loose full-height back cushion and the range's rolled arms, which are wide relative to the 50 cm seat.

Three details identify a Payton. The arms are low and softly rolled — each arm top curves over into the outside face in one continuous sweep, and the front of the scroll is ruched into four or five horizontal pleats. Fine self-piping in the same fabric outlines the seat cushion, the back cushion and the top edge of the base rail; there is no skirt, no buttoning and no stud work anywhere. It stands on 15 cm dark-stained turned wood legs, and unlike the sofas all four carry antique-brass ferrules and castors.

Upholstered in Plush Velvet, a smooth short-pile velvet, in fourteen colours. The pile catches the light, so the same panel reads a shade lighter or darker as you move around it.
